However the catch is that currently the most cost effective way of reaching Katavi is by light aircraft from Ruaha. To give you a perspective Katavi is half way between Dar and Ruaha. Katavi is being extended and will supersede Mikumi as Tanzania’s third largest park.

OTHER FACILITIES & SERVICES:
Katavi makes the perfect combination with Ruaha for the ultimate off the beaten track safari.
Kiba Point is the private 8-bed ‘sister’ camp of Sand Rivers nestled in the northern Selous of Tanzania.
Set back off the river in a fabulous location, one mile downstream and completely separate from Sand Rivers, this small and intimate camp is perfect for families or groups of friends. The camp is booked on a totally exclusive basis only; you won’t meet another soul beyond the family or friends you’ve brought with you, and your private lodge staff.
Kiba Point specialises in combining walks, boat trips and game drives as part of the same safari activity. Long game drives day after day are actively discouraged, preferring to offer a richer and more varied safari experience.
4 nights is the perfect (and minimum) time to really appreciate your stay. It takes time to slow down, absorb and understand the environment around you and appreciate the gentle thrill of quietly stalking and observing game and birds on foot, or by boat. You are very likely to encounter good numbers of Hippo, Crocodile, Elephant, Buffalo, Impala, Wildebeest, Zebra, Kongoni etc – normally observed quietly and undisturbed in very exciting environments.
There is also amazing and abundant birdlife and very diverse habitats all around Kiba Point.
Four big, airy cottages, made of stone and thatch, are raised up on platforms above the river line. The interiors are cool and elegant with huge beds and softly draped mosquito nets, planters chairs and sun-beds for chilling out.
The bathrooms are spacious and open; with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and an indoor and outdoor ‘rock’ shower.
There are plunge pools for every room and a large swimming pool at the main mess. The mess/dining area will spoil you with plump sofas, a library of books, your own bar, and lots of space to make your own.
The food is fantastic, and the drinks are always cold.
