Overview

The Jafferji House building was originally built by the Dossaji family about 100 years ago and later sold to the Jafferji family in the 1960’s who merchants in cutlery were. The Jafferji’s had the ultimate dream of converting this large property into an intimate boutique hotel, fit for kings and queens. After a three year renovation project, this property has been magically transformed from a family home into a very high standard boutique hotel, welcoming guests into the splendor of this magnificent property allowing them to visualize the grandeur of Sultans and merchants of days gone by.

All furnishings in Jafferji House, including all the carved door and window frames, are genuine antiques collected from all over the world from places such as Morocco, Afghanistan, India and Mozambique. Many of the antique ceramic plates seen in this property date back hundreds of years and were bought on ships headed for Zanzibar from Europe and Asia.

Accommodation

Jafferji House offers 10 suites each beautifully decorated in its own unique style from banana fibre roofing to bold sculptures and even traditional African carved furniture.

Bi Kidude’s African Suite on the second floor of the property offers an open air bathroom with deep Swahili baths and views over Stone Town towards the seafront. The Mercury suite features luxurious antique furniture, a large carved bed, a carved bath, double sink and is decorated with rich, sumptuous tones to reflect Freddy Mercury who was born just a few meters away from this property.

Other suites feature carved wooden trellises surrounding your suite, huge beautifully carved beds, Moroccan brass bathtubs, open air showers overlooking the Old Fort, Beaded lampshades, flowing drapery and gold-plated hand-made fittings. All suites are fully air-conditioned with flat screen TVs.

Facilities

Jafferji House offers excellent service and facilities. Situated on the roof of this property you will find the Spa where you can indulge yourself with the many treatments on offer whilst admiring the view over Stone Town. The Roof Top Spa offers traditional beauty treatments from around East Africa using only the finest natural ingredients.

Jafferji House also features a bar / restaurant designed in a minimalistic Arabic style and serves a selection of salads, sandwiches, toasts, whole meal breads and fresh tropical fruit juices made with locally sourced organic seasonal fruits and a range of different desserts.

Should you wish to dine out in the evenings, Jafferji House works closely with a number of wonderful restaurants around Stone Town and will assist you to make a reservation and offer you a discount.

Environment and local community

Jafferji House has established a strong relationship with the local community due to its roots, and does the utmost to maintain this by using only locally sourced produce when possible and employing and training local staff.
