Overview

Located on a beautiful Indian Ocean beach surrounded by the stunning bush of Saadani National Park, A Tent with a View offers a peaceful retreat from which to explore Tanzania’s only coastal wildlife reserve. With over 10 years experience & having founded tourist activities in the park in the early 1990’s, A Tent with a View offers unparalleled knowledge of Saadani.

Dolphins are sometimes seen offshore and whales pass through the Zanzibar channel on their migration. Of particular interest is the green turtle project at Madete Marine Reserve. This endangered species is under particular threat from fishing practices offshore from Saadani and a conservation project has been established to help protect both turtles and their eggs.

Accommodation

The accommodation at Tent with a View consists of just 10 luxury tents & 3 suites, 8 of which are elegantly perched on stilts and all suites at beach level.

All are private and well spaced along a pristine stretch of Indian Ocean beach.

Each room has a Saadani theme & offers full en suite facilities and large balconies with hammocks overlooking the azure sea.

The honeymoon suite is draped in rich purple fabrics and comes with full butler service & and the choice to dine in the privacy of your suite or at the stilted bar and restaurant overlooking the ocean.

Other activities

Boat Safaris:
A Boat Safari on the Wami River is one of the highlights of any visit to Saadani. Tent with a View combine this as part of a full day activity with a game drive and usually have lunch on the banks of the Wami. The river is home to large crocodiles and many hippos which at low tide can be seen on the sand banks.

There is a profusion of both coastal and riverine birdlife and the Boat Safari provides the ideal opportunity for observing this diversity of species. It is not uncommon to see 5 types of kingfisher on the Boat Safari. Black and white colobus monkeys are often seen frolicking in the trees beside the river.

Game Driving:
In Saadani, there are some wonderful half day game drives. The Mkwaja region has several dams and is the main habitat for Saadani’s elephant population. These ‘elephant safaris’ are best undertaken in the early morning. The rolling hills of south Mkwaja offer some of Saadani’s most stunning landscapes and are productive for a variety of plains game and ungulates. This is also where you are most likely to find the endangered Roosevelt’s sable antelope.

The Game Drive to the Wami River and through the southern section of Saadani offers a spectacular, varied landscape and is home to large populations of giraffe and several antelope species.

Village Tour:
On request during a Game Drive, Tent with a View can stop en route in Saadani village which is one of the oldest settlements on the Swahili coast. The old fort and graveyard bear testimony to this history and it is also possible to visit the school and see the fishermen at work.

Zanziplanet reviews

  • A Tent With A View offers traditional tented Safari’s with the bonus of beach side accommodation. The staffs are welcoming and friendly and the food is fabulous. This is a great place to chill out away from it all and their high priority of social and environmental responsibility makes us love them even more.
  • We particularly enjoyed visiting the nearby Madete Marine Reserve; a green turtle nesting site. The lodge supports them to help conserve this endangered species with encouraging results
